Chips N’ Giggles

Brief

A man smiling and wearing sunglasses, an orange patterned shirt, green shorts, and grey slides, stands on a cobblestone street in a European town with buildings and shops around him.

Jalen tate is a 27-year old member of Apple Developer Academy’s Renaissance Cohort. Jalen is also a member of Omegas Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, a substitute teacher, and coder who loves traveling, spending time with friends and long-boarding.

On a team of five individuals, I was tasked with helping build an app centered around friendship that Jalen would find useful.

Chips N’ Giggles—The next fun memory with your friends

Introducing

An interactive tool that helps friends deepen their connection through humor, nostalgia, and bonding activities designed to inspire meaningful conversations and new shared experiences.

My Role

Using the app Miro, I helped organized the tasks that each member of the team assigned themselves in order to track progress. I also helped facilitate execution of the project with well-thought questions about user needs, goals, and frustrations.

I also played a critical role in pivoting away from our project idea by quickly leading through the process of challenge mind-mapping again.

I wore multiple hats during this project including UI/UX designer, co-project manager, and copywriter.

Project Manager

As the primary UX and UI designer, I refined the teams hi-fi’s using the color provided by my co-designer (Brand lead) Sha. I made reiterations of the screens and buttons that guide the user through our app.

I also was responsible for most of the copy used within the app.

A digital project management board titled 'Dev Backlog' with three columns labeled 'Backlog', 'In progress', and 'Done'. The 'Backlog' and 'Done' columns contain tasks related to software development, each with a title, assigned person, status indicator, and due date. The 'In progress' column has a task titled 'Build Instructions/How To Page' with colored labels and a due date.

I took the lead on making custom modifiers for brand consistency and cohesiveness. My teammates were then able to use the modifiers I created to code their assigned screens.

I was also responsible for coding the Card Builder screen that allowed the player to make prompts for games that tie closer to them and their friends’ experiences.
